Rhodey's dress uniform
Since shusu planted the idea of a uniform kink story in my head with her wonderful reference post here, I decided the first thing I needed to know to write one was what exactly is on Rhodey's dress uniform. (I thought a few people here might find this interesting.)
The picture of Rhodey I used for reference is here. If you click on the photo, you'll get the BIG version of it.
The winged badge with the star on top I believe is a Pilot Badge (Senior) but I'm not sure what the other badge is-- might be Command and Control Badge (Senior) but I'm not sure. EDIT- I thought it was a shield inside the laurels on the second badge, but kbk pointed out it's round and with the diagonals visible on the left, probably making it the "Acquisition and Financial Management" Badge-- which makes much more sense! Badges of the United Stated Air Force
I think I've figured out all the ribbons Rhodey is wearing, but I'm guessing on what pins are attached to them (if anyone knows for sure, let me know!) (As I find links explaining the medals and ribbons, I'll add them in.) Ribbon graphic from here USAF medals here.
Insignia- Lt. Colonel Silver Oak Leaf Cluster pin on flight cap and one on shoulder. (There is also a silver button that I'm guessing matches the ones on the front of the jacket there.)
Since I'm still figuring out Rhodey's personal timeline, I found this an interesting fact in the wikipedia entry for USAF Lieutenant Colonel- In the 21st century U.S. military, the rank of lieutenant colonel is usually gained after 16–22 years of service as an officer. As most officers are eligible to retire after 20 years active service, it is the most common rank at which career officers retire. Since Tony was born in 1973 and graduated from MIT when he was 17 (around 1990), I wonder if Rhodey graduated around the same time-- which would make him a few years older than Tony-- and how long he's been a Lt. Colonel.
That's all I've been able to get so far. Feel free to correct me if I've gotten something wrong!
